We'll see what happens.Taxingwomanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05564125285937262315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8754773372316501693.post-230361360481649992008-03-13T16:43:00.000-07:002008-03-13T16:43:00.000-07:00oh poor mom.who's the big meanie booheenie?I hope ...oh poor mom.

who's the big meanie booheenie?

I hope its not me :(bwehrenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04304964362436314335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8754773372316501693.post-82089852756632775482008-03-13T10:30:00.000-07:002008-03-13T10:30:00.000-07:00Hi Carole: I shared on my blog a post "To Tell or...Hi Carole: I shared on my blog a post "To Tell or Not To Tell" 8/27/07. I ran into similar responses as you.

I am still dealing with the fallout from my last job where I am suing them for discrimination of disability. I worked in health care for over 30 years (had MS the whole time!) and only in the last 15 years has the response been negative.

I know people don't think they can "catch" it, but what the hell do they think? That they will have to take up the slack if I can't work? That I will fall ill at work and they won't know what to do? That I will endanger another patient?

I decided the only way I was going to tell an employer about my MS was when I needed to ask for ADA accommodations to get through my shift. That was 4 years ago and it has been hell since. New owners took away all my ADA's, so I am still in the process of suing them.

If you run into people at work who treat you differently, inferiorly, or with disdain, you can file a charge with the EEOC (first step) and then take them to court for it. I had to go through a union process first, then EEOC, then court. It all depends on your employment circumstances.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do. My post may help you sort it all out. Some other bloggers have mentioned my post on their blogs so it will show up on a Google search for non MSers.

Take care,
AnneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
