Well it never fails, every weekend it's something. Because the massive piles of snow are melting so quickly, the drain is backing up and I have water in my basement. Not all that much and only in one corner, still though it's frustrating. The city never cleans up at our end of the street . Because my street ends at an intersection and then continues further south , after a sharp left, then right turn, we are forgotten. How many people have said to me "Oh I didn't know that street went so far west" Sometimes that can be a good thing, to be forgotten. Street cleaning day not being one of those times.
It's supposed to be above freezing all week. Hope my house doesn't float away.
Did the usual cooking marathon this morning. Friday night I had run out of easy things to cook so we went to a new Indian buffet place. The food was excellent, fresh and lots of variety . Not a bad deal either, considering they included soft drinks with free refills. I ate way too much, which is always the danger with all you can eat buffets. The staff were very friendly . Nice to know there's a place close by to have dinner that is good, when I don't feel good. Gee ! that's most of the time.
My typing and printing are getting much worse. For example I wanted to type" time" and instead typed "mind" and I'm not even going fast.Bizarre. I'm screwing up my postcards too. I know what I have to print, yet I'm getting the letters mixed up. At least on a computer it's easy enough to correct .
I also had this odd sensation today while brushing my teeth. It felt like there was something on my arm, like a hair or drops of water, only there wasn't anything. It kept happening and I kept on trying to wipe it away, yet nothing was there. And how the heck has this tingle managed to get up into my left arm ?
The dentist from U of T called. I have an appointment in March for yet another consultation about the dental implants. They keep changing the diagnosis. First it was yes , then no, then maybe. I think it's back to yes now. I can't afford to get them done privately as my plan won't pay and no way do I want anymore crowns done. What an expensive torture that is.
Can't think of any other thing I spend so much money on that I hate so much, except maybe having my basement dug up.
There's a movie on t.v. tonight that I've never heard of "A Deadly Affair" with Simome Signoret( did it again, typed" seemore") and James Mason. The last time I saw her was in "Daibolique" on the french channel .The 1950's one, not the crappy remake with Sharon Stone. What a scary, weird, excellent movie !

Weekend
Tonight I'm finishing off the weekend watching a "black sploitation" movie, TNT Jackson.
Not only politically incorrect, but racist and so sixties. The names they are calling each other !
It's been quiet around here except for the constant barking dogs. Attention neighbours!!
The only dogs that like being outside in the cold and snow are Huskies, otherwise your dog wants to be inside where it's nice and warm. Just like you do.
Had some twitching in my face and legs yesterday. It's gone now. I'm pleased that I was able to go for a decent walk and not limp. Haven't been doing the Wii as much as I should. My leg needs to get better before I can tackle any of the good exercises. That's my excuse for being lazy. I know the next time I turn on the Wii , it will admonish me for not sticking to my routine .
Hey I finally saw a photo of Barack Obama smoking ! They kept that well hidden. For me that totally shatters the image of the young, fit, soon to be president.
Well back to the snake pit tomorrow. I wonder what bureaucratic nightmares await me
I just hate it when the computer tries to guess what I'm going to type (no I'm not going to type "chili dogs")
Back to this kooky movie.

Mental Illness in the Movies
First let's start with a dramatic change in the weather. It went from being cold and grey all week to suddenly, after a huge thunderstorm last night, up to 40C . A real steam bath.
Interesting article in the Las Cruces Sun about mental illness and movie myths. How movies, including "The Fisher King" and" As Good as it Gets" perpetrate misconceptions about mental illness .
Read it here
The two movies that I dislike that do this are "Good Will Hunting" and "The Prince of Tides". The idea that all you have to do is bare your soul to a shrink and everything will turn out peachy.
If only it were that simple. These movies do a great disservice to people who struggle with mental illness.
The article was very timely considering what happened to me this week.
On Thursday I had lunch with some friends . One friend telling me how her neighbour, who is schizophrenic, has been stalking her and her daughter. She has requested that a restraining order be issued against him. When I said that although I agreed it was a good idea, I didn't think it would stop the guy . My other friend got annoyed with me when I explained that schizophrenics can't control themselves . She said "Oh a schizophrenic can understand what a restraining order is", I said yes, maybe, but that won't stop the compulsive behaviour. She insisted that this guy could control himself if he really wanted to. I let it drop because I just couldn't be bothered to get into an arguement . It bugged me though that here was an intelligent woman who believed the myths. That mental illness is the fault of the person .
I told my other friend to please be careful.
The weather has me worried because it's supposed to stay hot like this for the rest of June. I'll have to plan any trips out for late afternoon, early evening, to avoid the heat.
Keeping my fingers crossed that I will have a good summer with no flare ups.

A typical Monday
My complaints about the lousy weather are feeble considering the recent earthquake, cyclone, tornadoes, and volcanic eruption. It's too difficult to comprehend, 10,000 people dying in a few seconds.
Managed to check everything off my to do list today. I now know more than I want to about websites and blogs. The door scraping is coming along and should only need another couple of hours to finish it. Made a pair of shorts out of pants that I know won't be in style next year. They turned out pretty good. Why I should care about that, but I do.
Haven't had to take any Advil since I left work even though I have awful pains in my feet. I can put up with it because they don't last. I'll get these stabbing pains on the top of my feet were my scars are and on my left foot it feels like my toe is going to fall off. Then they just go away on their own. Walking doesn't seem to be the cause. I walked loads this weekend and nothing, but sitting around and suddenly, Wham ! foot attack !
Added another health site to my links , Health Zone. Lots of interesting articles there on a wide variety of health topics.
As I'm typing this there's a very good Kung Fu battle going on in the movie "Shaolin Drunk Monkey "( yeah that's the title) A young woman dressed in red( that always means trouble) is kicking the crap out of this old martial arts master. He's a bad guy so I guess he deserves it.
That's it , after all it is Monday.

It Might Just Work Out
Day after day I keep reading in the news about how the economy is headed down the tubes; food and energy costs are set to go through the roof . So what do I do ? I have started a business with a friend.
It's not like I'm wanting to make a ton of money . My plan is that it will be enough to supplement my meager pension, should I decide to take early retirement.
The idea for the business has been kicking around for awhile . Having a regular paycheck makes it easy to procrastinate about these things. Now though, both of us are unhappy with work and uncertain about our futures ( more so me) . Then last night my friend came up with the perfect name for the business and that was it, I decided to go ahead and register a domain name . The start up costs are minimal , so if it doesn't work out it's no great loss. We both of us have the summer off to work on it and see how it goes.
It's great for me because I'll be able to work from home, since most of it will be internet based. Then it won't matter what time I work or don't work . I won't have to worry about how I look or how I feel and if my face starts twitching again, I won't have to worry about anybody seeing it.
Besides that, I really need some kind of project to keep me going.
I know that having a business with a friend could be a disaster. I've seen it happen time after time through dealings with clients in my real job. People have high expectations , big dreams, don't look at the negatives , and it all ends up in tears.
Well I'm willing to take a chance. I don't see things getting better for me at my real job and truthfully, I'm not up to a long drawn out battle with management.
It sure beats my alternative plan , which is to take early retirement and get a job as a greeter at Wal Mart. Yes, I really was considering that.
While I was organizing this thing I decided to see if there was a good movie on Drive In Classics .
What do you know ! "First Men in the Moon" 1964, was on. Haven't seen it since I was a girl.
It was one of my favourite sci fi films, with cool aliens and decent special effects . Seeing it again I found it just as good as when I was 10.

Easy Gro
Well another mini vacation over. Have the usual back to work anxiety tonight.
Got some good mail today. A friend sent me a pack of old horror movies including " Cult of the Cobra" and " Leech Woman". Got a nice postcard from Australia too.
My backyard and front, are starting to look like something. Not the scary mess they were. Amazing the plants buried under the leaves I had forgotten about .
Never made it to Home Depot, but went to the garden center instead. Bought some "Easy Gro"
perennials; the word easy was very appealing, and the price was right 4 for $10.00 . Now I have to wait a few weeks to plant anything else . We could still have frost, although it's hard to imagine since the weather is so nice now. In Calgary they had 40 cm of snow yesterday!
Even though they aren't bugging me at work, I'm still down about the whole situation there.
I don't want to push my life away, but I'm so looking forward to my break. I forget about the whole mess for a few days and then today started worrying again. I know that's pointless .
Can't help but wonder where I'll be this time next year.
Have tingling toes again this evening.
Monday night, Martial Arts Movie night. Hope it's a good one. I need some cheering up.

Mini Vacation Over
It's back to the poison machine tomorrow. That's my son's term for where I work, and very fitting. I have a meeting and a training seminar . Yuck ! I find all that difficult to deal with and would prefer to just sit at my desk and work. The whole phony socializing thing is really hard for me to do now. I guess it's because I feel like I should save what precious little energy I have , for important things.
The weather was a surprisingly mild 14C today, so I psyched myself up to do a bit of yard
work . Then, after an early dinner, I psyched myself again to go for a walk. Seems that I do a lot of that these days. I have to talk myself into doing almost everything, otherwise I would most likely curl up in a ball on the couch and watch movies all day. The exercise does help lift my mood, so it's worth the effort.
I did watch 2 Kung Fu movies this morning"Drunken Master" with Jackie Chan and "Dragon vs Vampire " a very strange film with Chinese, Kung Fu vampires. It's hard to get use to getting up in the morning and feeling just as tired as when I went to bed. So it's nice to have a morning were I don't have to do anything but watch movies. A real luxury.
I seem to be having more and more difficulty typing . I make so many mistakes . Thank goodness for spell check.

Started another blog !
Not much to say tonight I've started a new blog about movies. I thought it would be fun to dabble in a topic about one of my favourite past times: watching movies and do some brief reviews. . If I keep going with it I'll post a link here .
On the MS front: I did some research on the neurologist I'll be seeing in June. From want I've found out so far, he seems like a good doctor and a decent guy. Really knows his MS stuff and is open to alternative therapies. I'm actually looking forward to meeting him.
Other than that I'm feeling pretty good. At least I was tired for a good reason today . I managed to go shopping for fabric, a task I've put off for so long. The ride on the bus wasn't so great . Almost had me wanting a car, although I can't imagine myself ever driving again . With this fatigue I would be too worried about getting into an accident.
Two more lovely days off and the weather has been good . lots of sunshine which always makes me feel better.
