Here's an interesting poll I found at a U.S. news website .
I just have one thing to say to all you Senators, who are trying to scare people with horror stories of the Canadian health care system. How many Americans die because they have no access to health care? How many suffer for the same reason? How many wait and wait? Go bankrupt ?
OK, that's four things and questions, not answers, so I will say this to you: I am very happy with my health care, Thank You very much, I don't care for your system, even Obama's proposed new improved one. If I had to pay for all the services I have used in the past five years( most of it good and waiting times were reasonable) I would either be bankrupt or dead.
Oh Yes ! Let's not let the government get in the way of your health care choices. The insurance companies do it so much better.

Amen sister! My country is making me sick every time some conservative Republican brings up, "In Canada..." I want to SCREAM!!! You would think Canada is a dying place, full of sick, poor, unhappy people! (How DO they play all that hockey!!??) AARRGGHH

I think if Americans knew more about how the Canadian system works and what it provides, they could make more intelligent decisions -- especially at election time.
So many politicians cite Canadian healthcare as an example and then do not elaborate on what it provides. They only go so far as to make it sound scary. Then the politician comes up for re-election and because Americans remember the scare tactic, they vote for him thinking he has their best interests at heart.
I admit I do not know all there is to know about how the Canadian health system works.
But I do not hear the horror stories that I hear in the USA with our system.
So maybe if our government laid out all the cards on the table - and put it in a column by column table - we just may be able to understand it and make informed decisions.

Anne Your idea is very sensible I'm not saying we have the perfect system, but it has been there for me when I needed it.
Right on! I am so tired of Canada being held out as an example of the horrors of universal healthcare. We spend less per capita, have better health outcomes and no one's turned away for not being able to pay. What's wrong with that?
