Money Butteflies and Fail Cake

What do you think of my money butterflies ?

I had to go to a wedding shower and it was one were you give money instead of a gift. I found that kind of boring, so I made money butterflies. I stuck them in a flower arrangement, with plants from my garden (jungle !!). Not my idea. When I went to the Peach Festival, a woman was selling flower bouquets of money roses and butterflies. I went home, practiced a little, and decided to stick with butterflies as they are pretty easy to make. The bodies are made from cheapie paper butterflies I bought at the dollar store. I tore the wings off and replaced them with money ones. I fastened them to wooden barbecue skewers with craft wire. I already had the container and the only additional cost was for some floral foam because I wanted to use live plants. Not counting the money, it cost me about $5.00 to make instead of the $30-$50 retail.
Oh yeah, that's not my kitchen in the picture.

Just to show you I'm not a Martha Stewart. Here is my Fail cake. I dropped it on the floor. Fortunately it was in a box when I did that, so it was still edible.

I hate giving money as a wedding gift as well. But, when people basically give you an endless list in their registries, there's not much creativity to selecting the present, so that's not much better than money.

I think your money butterflies was a great idea!

Very creative. I HATE boring gifts. there is always a way to spice them up. (And I am in no way crafty)

I love the creativity with the money butterflies -- I'm in awe of people who think that way and then can actually design something like that!
