Flip Flop

Yeah it isn't just the politicians who do it. In the space of two hours my manager back tracked on all the stupid, pointless, things she said and is going ahead with the paperwork to get things resolved . Only thing is she will be gone when I get back to work which means I have to start over again with another person. I have to get in touch with the union rep tomorrow.
How can people lie so much ? Don't they see how they are messing up another person's life ?
23 years I work in a place with minimal problems and now it's all crap !

What really bugs me is how sick I felt this evening I use to be able to handle stress , now I just get stressed out.
Well at least I have another month to recover. My plan is to have no more contact with anybody at work and see what happens. I mean they aren't paying me for my time off so why should I bother .

That's it no more work talk unless something big happens, which it won't.

Well, ok, but you must vent somewhere. I enjoy work talk.

Hi Carole: So sorry to hear about your work issues and getting accommodations. I know you are in Canada but the laws are similar in that it does not matter WHO at the company makes the arrangements for you, it is THE company who is entering the agreement with you.

So even if the manager leaves to another job, the company still has to honor agreement.

With that said, they did not do that in my case and I lost everything. Because my company is a big conglomerate that owns over 3,000 nursing homes in the US, they managed to pay off the people who spoke up for me (or fired them) so that I no longer had access to them.

I did not fraternize with people outside of work, therefore I did not have addresses, phone numbers etc. to get/keep in touch.

It is a year and a half later, and although I filed my case with the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) and the PHRC (Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission) and won the right to sue. The only hangup is that I now have no witnesses; any statements from them that were in my file have disappeared. Long time supervisors and coworkers who still work there don't want to lose their jobs so they have signed statements with the company denying all my allegations.

So, learn from my errors. Get everything in writing, even phone conversations (you can write memos documenting phone calls and copy it to them). Get home addresses and phone numbers of witnesses or people who speak or will speak for you to support your disability claims and work agreements.

I hope when you get back to work that it will be a better work envirnoment for you. But please make sure that whatever your manager said she was going to do, that you get that conversation in writing (write a memo detailing the talk and copy it to him/her) and whatever she does for you - get it in writing before you go back to work.

I was a union shop steward for my company. If they could force me out, they could force anyone out. Even the union lawyer couldn't help me because the company argued that union legal benefits were paid by the company as a benefit to us and therefore the company was the lawyer's employer because they paid for the benefit. While it was true, they also alleged that the legal benefits were for domestic issues only - not work issues...only for divorce, child support, wills, etc. but not for disability, unemployment, LOA's,etc.

If you choose to not publish this onto your blog after reading, I understand. ADA in the US is still a hot issue and not totally resolved so I don't expect it to be any different in any other country.

Good luck and take care,
Anne

Thanks for your support ladies . Anne It makes me sad to read what happened to you. We think that if we are honest and open with people they will be the same. Not true !
I'm doing many of the things you suggest.
